A Day of Final Curtains and Cultural Celebrations

Welcome to Sunday, February 1, 2026. Today marks a significant transition in the San Francisco cultural calendar as several major residency programs and exhibitions host their final performances. Whether you are looking for a last-minute theater seat, a free museum visit, or a local community market, the city is bustling with activity this first Sunday of the month.

Theater and Comedy Highlights

Today is the final opportunity to catch the high-energy production of The Book of Mormon at the Orpheum Theatre. The award-winning musical wraps up its current San Francisco run with a final matinee performance starting at 1:00 PM. Meanwhile, the San Francisco Ballet concludes its powerful run of Eugene Onegin at the War Memorial Opera House. This dark and passionate adaptation of Alexander Pushkin’s poetic tale holds its final performance at 2:00 PM.

Comedy fans should head to the final day of the 23rd annual SF Sketchfest. The city-wide festival concludes today with headlining sets including Bad Dates with Joel Kim Booster at Cobb’s Comedy Club at 4:00 PM and an evening with Jenny Slate at the Sydney Goldstein Theater at 7:00 PM.

Museum Exhibitions and Free Admission

It is a "last chance" day for art lovers at the de Young Museum. The landmark exhibition Art of Manga, which has explored the evolution of Japanese graphic art since the 1970s, officially closes its doors this evening. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early for the 9:30 AM opening to view the 700-plus works on display.

Additionally, because it is the first Sunday of the month, the Asian Art Museum in the Civic Center is offering its monthly Free Admission Day. This is an excellent opportunity to explore the permanent collection and current rotating exhibits without the usual entry fee. For those seeking something immersive, Aura at Grace Cathedral continues to offer its projection-mapping odyssey, transforming the historic cathedral into a living canvas of light and sound.

Markets and Community Festivals

The San Francisco Slavic Festival enters its second and final day at the Russian Center of San Francisco on Sutter Street. Running from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the event features traditional music, folk dancing, and authentic cuisine. For those who prefer a local stroll, the Castro Art Mart takes over Noe Street between Market and Beaver. This monthly block party features local LGBTQ+ artists, live musicians, and handcrafted goods from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Alternatively, the Sucka Flea Market & Swap in the Mission District provides a venue for vintage finds and local community meetups throughout the afternoon.
