City Bulletin: Chinatown Street Fair Closures, Daylight Saving Time, and Service Advisories
Official Notice: Daylight Saving Time Commencement
San Francisco residents are reminded that Daylight Saving Time officially commenced today, Sunday, March 8, 2026. At 2:00 a.m., all clocks were set forward one hour. While most digital devices update automatically, manual timepieces should be adjusted to reflect the change. San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) service continued to operate on standard time through the conclusion of the late-night "Owl" service. Regular Sunday transit schedules have now adjusted to the new time with the start of morning service.
Public Service: Chinatown Community Street Fair
The annual Lunar New Year festivities continue today with the Chinatown Community Street Fair. The event is open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. along Grant Avenue and surrounding corridors. Due to the fair, several significant road closures remain in effect through 11:00 p.m. tonight. Major impacted thoroughfares include:
- Grant Avenue between California Street and Broadway
- Pacific Avenue between Stockton Street and Columbus Avenue
- Jackson and Washington Streets between Stockton and Kearny Streets
- All associated alleys in the area bounded by California and Broadway
Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the northeast quadrant of the city. As a final day incentive, the Portsmouth Square Parking Garage is offering its last day of a special one-hour free parking program, which concludes this evening at the close of the event.
SFMTA Service Alerts and Reroutes
In conjunction with the street fair, the SFMTA has implemented several transit adjustments to accommodate pedestrian crowds. The inbound 8 Bayshore bus stop at Kearny and Jackson streets is currently closed and will remain out of service until Monday morning. Riders are advised to use alternate stops at Kearny and Clay or Columbus and Kearny. Additionally, the 12 Folsom/Pacific route is operating on a reroute, missing the stop at Pacific and Grant. Transit riders should expect residual delays on the 1, 10, and 30 lines through the evening.
Department of Building Inspection Maintenance
The Department of Building Inspection (DBI) is currently performing essential monthly server maintenance. The online permit tracking system and the PermitSF digital portal—used for filing electrical, plumbing, and mechanical permits—will remain unavailable until 8:00 p.m. tonight. Officials recommend that contractors and residents wait until Monday morning to resume online applications or status checks.
Public Works: Overnight Ramp Closures
Beginning tonight, Sunday, March 8, at 10:00 p.m., San Francisco Public Works will initiate nightly ramp closures for infrastructure and pedestrian safety improvements. The Southbound US-101 off-ramp to eastbound Cesar Chavez Street and the Bayshore Boulevard off-ramp will be closed until 5:00 a.m. Monday. These nightly closures are expected to persist through Thursday, March 12.
Health Advisory: Wild Mushroom Foraging
The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) continues to urge the public not to pick or consume wild mushrooms found in city parks or open spaces. Recent heavy rains have led to an increase in toxic mushroom species in the region. Residents who suspect mushroom poisoning should seek immediate medical attention at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
