Civic Governance: Committee Hearings and Legislative Updates

The Government Audit and Oversight Committee is scheduled to convene today, March 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM at City Hall in the Legislative Chamber (Room 250). A primary focus of today’s session is a public hearing regarding private developer commitments for housing projects located at 2000-2070 Bryant Street and 681 Florida Street. The hearing will review financial obligations tied to these Mission District developments, including $500,000 in capital funding earmarked for tenant improvements for a community arts space.

Additionally, the committee will deliberate on an ordinance amending the San Francisco Police Code concerning non-legal immigration services. This proposed legislation would require notaries and consultants to distribute City-prepared documents that identify verified low-cost legal providers and consulates. The measure is designed to enhance consumer protection and assist the Human Rights Commission in addressing complaints against unauthorized immigration consultants.

SFMTA: Neighborhood Projects and Transit Planning

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is holding in-person office hours today, March 5, for the Hayes Valley Pay or Permit Expansion Project. These sessions provide a forum for residents to review and discuss the proposed expansion of parking permit zones and new payment regulations within the Hayes Valley neighborhood. Agency staff will be available to answer questions regarding the project's timeline and local impacts.

In transit safety developments, implementation continues for the "Hairball" spot improvement project. This initiative targets traffic safety and bikeway upgrades along Bayshore Boulevard between Marin Street and Jerrold Avenue, as well as Cesar Chavez Street underneath US 101. Commuters should expect ongoing work through the spring as the City installs traffic-calming measures and enhanced striping. Furthermore, officials remind the public that preparations for the upcoming Lunar New Year Parade will begin tomorrow, with free Muni service scheduled for the main event on Saturday, March 7.

Public Health Advisories: Current Safety Alerts

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) has several active advisories currently in effect. Residents are strongly cautioned against the consumption of wild mushrooms gathered in the Bay Area due to a reported increase in severe mushroom poisonings. This advisory remains high-priority for the region throughout the early spring months.

Health officials also continue to monitor an increase in measles cases across California. SFDPH reaffirms the importance of the evidence-based childhood immunization schedule to prevent local outbreaks. Additionally, clinical protocols remain active following a tuberculosis (TB) outbreak at a local high school earlier this year, with health providers urged to maintain rigorous evaluation and reporting standards.

Administrative and Regional Board Meetings

The San Francisco Bay Ferry Board of Directors will hold a scheduled meeting today, March 5, to discuss regional service schedules and operational updates. At City Hall, the Assessment Appeals Board No. 1 will hold two sessions to hear property valuation appeals: a morning session at 9:30 AM in Room 406 and an afternoon session starting at 1:30 PM in Room 405. All sessions are open to the public.
