F-Line Shuttles and Highway Rehabilitation Impact Thursday Commute

Transit Service Impacts: Muni and BART
Commuters utilizing San Francisco’s transit network this Thursday, January 29, 2026, should prepare for specific route adjustments. The SFMTA has confirmed that the F Market & Wharves line is currently operating with a switchback. Due to ongoing PG&E utility work, inbound streetcars are turning around at Pier 39. To assist travelers, bus shuttles are providing connecting service between Beach & Jones and Pier 39. Riders are encouraged to look for boarding instructions near the impacted stops.
On Geary Boulevard, the multi-year sewer and water line replacement project continues between 32nd Avenue and Stanyan Street. Several bus stops for the 38 Geary and 38R Geary Rapid have been temporarily relocated to accommodate construction crews. Additionally, BART riders are reminded that system-wide Clipper upgrades are still in progress. When adding funds at vending machines, users must hold their cards against the reader throughout the entire transaction rather than tapping, as the hardware transitions to the new NextGen system.
Highway and Bridge Conditions
Traffic flow on major arteries remains largely steady this morning, though long-term rehabilitation projects continue to affect lane availability. Caltrans is actively working on the "Fab 4" projects, including the US-101 (Central) and I-80 (Bayshore) viaducts. While major daylight lane closures are not expected today, restriping and storm drainage improvements along the US-101 Hospital Curve may result in intermittent on- and off-ramp closures during off-peak hours.
For those crossing the Bay Bridge, overnight work on the West Span Joint Rehabilitation project continues to require lane closures starting at 8:00 p.m. Most lanes are scheduled to reopen by 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. each morning. On the Golden Gate Bridge, no major lane closures are scheduled for the 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. window tonight, as the Suicide Deterrent System construction has reached a phase that requires less frequent nighttime interference.
Regional Rail and South Bay Alerts
Commuters heading to the South Bay should be aware of significant locomotive availability issues impacting the Capitol Corridor. Seven daily trains have been canceled through late February, including several morning departures from Sacramento to Oakland. Caltrain service is operating on its standard electrified schedule, though a bus bridge remains in effect between Tamien and San Jose Diridon until January 30.
Finally, travelers heading toward Santa Clara should anticipate heavy congestion near Levi’s Stadium. Preparations for Super Bowl LX have triggered the closure of Tasman Drive and the San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail starting today, January 29. Regional detours are in place via Highway 237 and the Montague Expressway.
