Morning Traffic & Golden Gate Bridge Alerts

Commuters heading into the city from the north should prepare for significant delays today, Thursday, February 12, 2026. The Golden Gate Bridge District has scheduled maintenance work on US-101 that will impact the morning and early afternoon travel windows. Starting at 9:00 AM and continuing until 1:00 PM, daytime lane closures will be in effect. This roadwork is expected to narrow the bridge to just one southbound lane during these hours. Traffic is expected to back up significantly into Marin County, so motorists are advised to use the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge or public transit alternatives if possible.

Within San Francisco, the Transbay Howard Streetscape Project continues to impact the SoMa district. Expect intermittent delays and lane closures on Howard Street between The Embarcadero and 4th Street from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Crews are currently installing new safety upgrades and traffic signal infrastructure. While major street closures from last week's Super Bowl LX celebrations have largely been cleared, some rolling detours may still occur as temporary infrastructure is removed near the Moscone Center.

Public Transit & BART Modernization

BART riders should plan for service impacts late this evening. Due to ongoing train control modernization work, there will be delays of up to 30 minutes between the Millbrae, SFO, and San Bruno stations. These delays are scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM. Riders traveling to or from the airport should allow for at least an extra half-hour of travel time to ensure they do not miss flight connections.

On a more positive note, Caltrain's fully electrified fleet is now operating on its new "clockface" schedule. Peak period service currently features four trains per hour in each direction, including express service between San Jose and San Francisco in under an hour. However, do note that minor elevator maintenance is currently affecting accessibility at the San Mateo and San Bruno stations.

Overnight Roadworks: Caldecott Tunnel & Bay Bridge

For those traveling late tonight, Caltrans has scheduled an overnight bore closure of the Caldecott Tunnel on CA-24. The eastbound left bore will be closed starting at 10:00 PM and will remain shut until 4:30 AM Friday morning. While at least one bore will remain open in each direction, overnight delays are expected.

Additionally, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge joint rehabilitation project remains active. Expect the two left lanes (Lanes 1 and 2) on the eastbound I-80 Western Span to close tonight from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM tomorrow morning for essential structural maintenance. Drive with caution and observe all posted speed reductions in construction zones.
