What happened

A juvenile died after a shooting that wounded two other juveniles Friday evening in San Francisco’s Western Addition, near Golden Gate Avenue and Laguna Street. Police said officers responded at about 5:13 p.m. and found three juvenile victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers provided emergency aid until paramedics arrived. All three victims were transported to a local hospital. Police said one victim had life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital. The other two victims were treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Location and immediate response

The shooting occurred near a public recreation area, including basketball courts and a playground in the neighborhood. The intersection is a short distance from civic facilities on the western edge of the city’s downtown core, an area with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic during commute hours.

Investigators from the San Francisco Police Department’s Homicide Detail responded and are leading the case. Police have not released the victim’s identity because the victim was a minor, and no arrests have been announced.
