Marina Blvd Closure for Red Bull Showrun; Major I-80 Off-Ramp Shutdown This Saturday

Significant Disruptions Expected for Saturday Commuters

San Francisco residents and visitors should prepare for a busy and potentially congested Saturday on February 21, 2026. Major street closures in the Marina District and significant freeway ramp shutdowns near SoMa will impact travel across the city throughout the day and into the night.

Marina District: Red Bull Showrun Impacts

The headline event today is the Red Bull Showrun, a Formula One demonstration taking place on Marina Boulevard. This will result in the following traffic impacts:

  • Marina Boulevard: Closed in both directions between Beach/Buchanan and Baker streets. The closure began at 3 a.m. this morning and will remain in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
  • Muni Reroutes: The 30 Stockton line is being rerouted in both directions from the start of service until 10 p.m. tonight. Riders should use alternate stops at Mason St-Tunnel Tops or Chestnut & Pierce.
  • Delays: Residents in the Marina should expect significant delays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. during the peak of the demonstration.

Freeway and Roadwork Alerts

Caltrans has scheduled major infrastructure work as part of the Central and Bayshore Viaduct rehabilitation projects:

  • I-80 Eastbound: The 4th Street off-ramp is completely closed for the entire weekend, starting from late Friday night through Monday morning. Drivers heading into SoMa from the Bay Bridge should seek alternate exits like 5th Street or 7th Street.
  • Bay Bridge: Late-night travelers should note that lanes on the Westbound I-80 (San Francisco-bound) will see intermittent closures for joint rehabilitation.
  • Hayes Valley: Shared Spaces closures will be active on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., restricting vehicle access to select blocks to prioritize pedestrian traffic.

Public Transport and Special Events

Public transit is recommended for those heading to major city events today, though some service changes are in effect:

  • BART: Expect 20-30 minute delays through the Transbay Tube after 10 p.m. tonight due to essential lighting work and single-tracking.
  • Chase Center: Los Tigres Del Norte will perform at 8 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.). To accommodate fans, Muni will provide the 78X Arena Express shuttle service from the 16th Street BART station. Note that special event parking rates of $12/hour are in effect near the arena.
  • Clipper Notice: Riders are reminded that ongoing system upgrades require users to hold their Clipper cards against the reader until the transaction is complete, rather than a quick tap.

Commuters are advised to budget at least 30 extra minutes for travel across the northern waterfront and SoMa districts today.
