Public Health Advisories and Alerts

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) maintains several active advisories as of March 2026. Health officials urge residents to remain informed regarding the following updates:

  • Severe Mushroom Poisoning Warning: A standing advisory remains in effect due to an increase in severe mushroom poisonings across the Bay Area. Foraging for wild mushrooms is strongly discouraged as many toxic species closely resemble edible varieties.
  • Measles Health Alert: SFDPH continues to monitor an increase in measles cases across California. Residents are advised to ensure their MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccinations are up to date.
  • Employer Health Expenditure Rates: As of March 1, 2026, the updated Health Care Expenditure (HCE) rates under the Health Care Security Ordinance are in effect. Employers must ensure compliance with the new rates for the 2026 calendar year.

Transportation and Infrastructure Updates

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and Public Works have issued the following notices regarding traffic and transit impacts active through Wednesday, March 4, 2026:

  • Transbay Howard Streetscape Project: Ongoing safety upgrades and protected bicycle lane construction continue on Howard Street between The Embarcadero and 4th Street. Expect intermittent lane closures and delays on weekdays between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
  • Bayshore Boulevard Safety Improvements: Implementation of traffic calming and bikeway upgrades in the "Hairball" area (near Cesar Chavez Street and US 101) remains ongoing. Drivers should exercise caution when navigating construction zones in this corridor.
  • Transit Service: Muni continues to operate under the service changes that went into effect in mid-February. Riders are reminded that while mask mandates have lifted, health officials still recommend masking on public transit during periods of increased respiratory virus activity.
