SFUSD Public Notice: All Schools Closed Monday, February 9

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) has officially announced that all district schools will be closed to students today, Monday, February 9, 2026. This closure is the result of ongoing labor negotiations and a subsequent strike. While district officials stated that negotiations continued through the weekend, a resolution has not yet been reached. Families are encouraged to utilize available learning resources and community-based support services during the work stoppage. Further updates regarding school operations for the remainder of the week will be issued as negotiations progress.

Public Health Alert: Tuberculosis and Respiratory Virus Precautions

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) remains in a state of heightened advisory following recent local health developments:

  • Tuberculosis Outbreak: An advisory is active regarding a tuberculosis (TB) outbreak associated with Archbishop Riordan High School. While in-person classes were previously suspended, hybrid learning and modified operations resume today. SFDPH continues to oversee a large-scale contact investigation involving students and staff.
  • Respiratory Virus Advisory: Following the Super Bowl events, health officials are urging residents and visitors to monitor for symptoms of influenza, COVID-19, and RSV. Clinicians have been directed to maintain a high index of suspicion for non-endemic diseases and measles, following a rise in confirmed cases across the state.
  • Mushroom Foraging Warning: The California Department of Public Health has issued a critical warning against mushroom foraging. Due to recent rains, poisonous 'death cap' mushrooms are proliferating in city parks and under oak trees, leading to multiple reported hospitalizations and deaths.

City Hall: Board of Supervisors Committee Meetings

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has several committee meetings scheduled for today at City Hall:

  • Rules Committee (10:00 AM): Meeting in Room 250 to discuss ordinances regarding Fire Department appointments and new regulations prohibiting the unauthorized use of City property.
  • Land Use and Transportation Committee (1:30 PM): Agenda items include proposed Planning Code amendments to authorize alcohol sales in movie theaters.
  • Youth Commission (5:00 PM): The Civic Engagement and Education Committee will convene in Room 278 to discuss student initiatives.

Transportation and Public Safety Updates

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) reports that Super Bowl-related road closures and parking restrictions remain in effect through the end of today. Major impacts are expected on Howard, Mission, and 4th streets near the Moscone Center. Additionally, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) will host a virtual community meeting today at 6:00 PM to discuss the AB 481 Annual Report concerning the funding and use of military equipment.
