Official City Notices: Air Quality Alerts, Public Hearings, and Health Advisories

Environmental and Health Alerts
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has officially issued a Spare the Air alert for Thursday, February 5, 2026. A spell of calm winds and clear skies has caused air quality to deteriorate, leading to an accumulation of particulate matter. Consequently, the use of wood-burning devices, including fireplaces and outdoor fire pits, is strictly prohibited throughout the region for the duration of the alert. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity, particularly children, seniors, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions.
Additionally, the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) maintains an active health advisory regarding a tuberculosis (TB) outbreak associated with Archbishop Riordan High School. Public health officials are conducting a large-scale investigation following the identification of three active cases and over 50 cases of latent TB infection. Mandatory evaluations and testing are required for all students and staff members connected to the campus. In-person classes at the facility remain suspended through the end of the week, with hybrid learning protocols in effect.

Public Service Announcements
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has announced major traffic impacts related to Super Bowl LX festivities. Beginning at 11:00 PM tonight, Jones Street will be closed between McAllister Street and Golden Gate Avenue. This closure will remain in effect until Sunday morning. Commuters should expect significant delays near the Embarcadero and Moscone Center due to ongoing event set-ups and the Transbay Howard Streetscape Project.
SF Planning and the Department of Building Inspection are also warning the public of a persistent phishing scam targeting permit applicants. Fraudulent emails requesting immediate payment for permit fees have been reported. Official payments should only be made through the verified SF Permit Portal or at the City’s central Permit Center.
