Public Notice: Chinese New Year Flower Market Fair Street Closures

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory for the annual Chinese New Year Flower Market Fair, active through Sunday, February 15, 2026. To accommodate the festivities in the Chinatown district, several significant street closures and transit detours are in effect. Residents and visitors should note the following restrictions:

  • Grant Avenue is closed to all vehicle traffic between California Street and Broadway.
  • Pacific Avenue is closed between Columbus Avenue and Stockton Street.
  • Jackson Street is closed between Stockton and Kearny streets.

These closures will remain in effect until 11:00 p.m. Sunday evening. The SFMTA warns of heavy congestion in the surrounding area and recommends that motorists allow for significant extra travel time. The 12 Folsom/Pacific Muni route is currently being rerouted to bypass the fair zone.

Major Transit Advisory: Potrero Yard Modernization and Service Changes

Effective Saturday, February 14, 2026, a major restructuring of the Muni system has been implemented following the official closure of the Potrero Yard. This facility has been decommissioned to begin a multi-year modernization project to replace it with a high-capacity maintenance facility. As a result, the following service adjustments are active as of today:

  • Route Modifications: Schedules and stop locations have been adjusted for multiple lines, including the 1 California, 1X California Express, 14 Mission, and 48 Quintara/24th Street.
  • Frequency Increases: To manage high weekend demand, the 5 Fulton now operates with 7-minute frequencies, while the 5R Fulton Rapid has shifted to 8-minute intervals during peak hours.
  • Operational Shift: Bus maintenance and operations for several lines have transitioned to other city divisions; riders are encouraged to monitor real-time alerts for potential teething issues during this transition.

Health Advisory: Statewide Measles Alert and Heart Health Month

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is maintaining a high-priority health alert originally issued on February 12, 2026, regarding a spike in measles cases throughout California. While San Francisco has not confirmed a resident case since 2019, the Department urges clinicians to maintain strict vigilance for patients presenting with high fever and respiratory symptoms. Public health officials emphasize the importance of ensuring all residents, especially those planning international travel, are fully vaccinated.

Separately, the San Francisco Health Service System is highlighting February as Heart Health Month. City-sponsored wellness programs are active this week, focusing on cardiovascular disease prevention and regular screenings at participating municipal health centers.

Public Service Announcement: School Resumption and Holiday Schedule

Following the tentative agreement reached on February 13 to end the citywide teachers' strike, the San Francisco Unified School District has confirmed that its 49,000 students are scheduled to return to classrooms on Wednesday, February 18. This return follows the scheduled break for the Presidents' Day and Lunar New Year holidays. For the upcoming Presidents' Day on Monday, February 16, Muni will operate on a Sunday schedule, and standard parking enforcement will apply to all meters citywide.
