Public Notice: Major Muni Service Transitions and Potrero Yard Closure

Effective Saturday, February 14, 2026, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has implemented significant service changes across several transit lines. These adjustments coincide with the official closure of the Potrero Yard to facilitate the Potrero Yard Modernization Project, which will replace the century-old facility with a modern bus maintenance hub and housing. Riders are advised that bus operations and maintenance have been redistributed to other city facilities, resulting in the following schedule and route modifications:

  • Frequency Changes: The 5 Fulton and 5R Fulton Rapid will see increased weekend frequency to meet demand, with the 5 Fulton arriving every 7 minutes and the 5R every 8 minutes. Conversely, the 14 Mission will now operate every 8 minutes on weekends to align with increased ridership on the 14R Mission Rapid.
  • Route and Stop Adjustments: The 48 Quintara-24th Street outbound route now matches the inbound route through West Portal, traveling on Ulloa Street to avoid congestion on Vicente Street. A new stop has also been added for the 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express at Stockton and Geary Streets to improve transfers at Union Square.
  • Early Departures: The 1X California Express will now depart five minutes earlier at 7:40 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. to improve spacing with local service.

Health Advisory: Regional Measles Alert and Respiratory Vigilance

The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH), in coordination with the California Department of Public Health, has issued a high-priority health alert following a rise in measles cases across the state. While no cases have been reported within San Francisco city limits since 2019, health officials urge residents—particularly those planning international travel—to ensure they are fully vaccinated. Clinicians are directed to maintain a high index of suspicion for patients presenting with fever and rash.

Additionally, the city continues its investigation into a localized tuberculosis outbreak associated with a high school community. Residents are encouraged to practice standard respiratory hygiene as the region moves through the winter viral season. February also marks American Heart Month; the San Francisco Health Service System reminds all city employees and residents to prioritize cardiovascular health through preventative screenings and stress management programs currently available through city health centers.

Community Notice: School Reopening and Valentine’s Day Event

Following a tentative agreement reached on February 13, the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) has announced that schools will resume normal operations for staff immediately. However, due to the scheduled Presidents' Day holiday weekend, students are set to return to classrooms on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. This ends the recent labor action that impacted 120 school sites across the district.

For those traveling today, the SFMTA and the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District are hosting the "Love on the Line" event at the Hyde and Beach Cable Car Turnaround. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the public is invited to take free professional Valentine’s Day photos on a specially decorated cable car. No registration is required for this public service event.
