Morning Gridlock Expected Near Golden Gate Park

Commuters and residents should prepare for significant traffic disruptions this morning, Sunday, February 1, 2026, as the annual San Francisco Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K races take over the western side of the city. Major thoroughfares in and around Golden Gate Park and the Panhandle will be closed to vehicle traffic to accommodate thousands of runners. The most restrictive closures are scheduled between 7:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., though some areas will remain affected until noon.

  • Major Street Closures: Oak and Fell streets (between Stanyan and Broderick), Baker Street (Hayes to Page), and Masonic and Stanyan streets (between Hayes and Haight) will be inaccessible during the peak race hours.
  • The Great Highway: Both northbound and southbound lanes between Fulton Street and Sloat Boulevard are closed from 6:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
  • Kezar Drive: Fully closed between Stanyan Street and Lincoln Way until the final runners clear the course.

Super Bowl LX Activities Begin in SoMa

As San Francisco gears up to host Super Bowl LX, the first wave of major event-related traffic impacts begins today near the Moscone Center. Rolling street closures are now in effect on Howard, Mission, and 4th streets. These restrictions are expected to cause intermittent delays throughout the day as crews set up for the Super Bowl Experience. Drivers are strongly advised to avoid the SoMa district and use the Embarcadero or Octavia Boulevard as alternate routes to cross the city.

Public Transit Alerts: BART and Muni Reroutes

Public transport riders face a combination of event-based reroutes and scheduled maintenance work today:

  • BART Yellow Line: A single-tracking operation is in place between Rockridge and Orinda today from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for vegetation maintenance. Riders should anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes on trains traveling through the East Bay into San Francisco.
  • Muni Impacts: Due to the Half Marathon, the 18 46th Avenue, 33 Ashbury/18th Street, 43 Masonic, and 44 O'Shaughnessy routes are currently operating on significant reroutes. Several stops along Lincoln Way and near the Music Concourse will be missed until approximately noon.
  • AC Transit: Note that a major service realignment goes into effect today, Sunday, February 1, which may alter your standard Sunday boarding times or route paths.

Overnight Bridge Work

Looking ahead to tonight, Caltrans has scheduled rehabilitation work on the Bay Bridge. Starting at 11:00 p.m., the three left lanes on Eastbound I-80 (Rincon Hill to Yerba Buena Island) will be closed for the West Span Joint Rehab project. Work is expected to conclude by 7:00 a.m. Monday morning. Motorists should exercise caution and expect merging delays late tonight.
