San Francisco gets a new kind of Super Bowl Sunday representative

San Francisco will have a local connection in this year’s Puppy Bowl XXII, the televised adoption-focused special featuring rescue dogs in a football-themed format. A black-and-white puppy named Foggy, who spent time in the care of the San Francisco SPCA, is slated to appear in the 2026 broadcast as a member of Team Ruff.

The program is scheduled to air on Sunday, February 8, 2026, beginning at 11 a.m. Pacific Time across multiple major cable and streaming platforms.

Foggy’s path to the national broadcast

Foggy arrived in the Bay Area through a shelter-to-shelter transfer after being taken in as a stray at only a few weeks old at the Fresno Animal Center. She was later placed with a foster family connected to the San Francisco SPCA, where she was cared for and socialized before adoption. The foster home included children who participated in her play-based training and acclimation to new environments.

Foggy has since been adopted and is living in Northern California outside San Francisco, but her appearance in Puppy Bowl XXII remains tied to her time under the San Francisco SPCA’s care. Details about in-game outcomes are not being publicly disclosed ahead of the broadcast.

What Puppy Bowl XXII will feature

This year’s Puppy Bowl is set to include a large national field of rescue animals, with participating dogs drawn from dozens of shelters and partner organizations. The format follows the long-running structure of puppies “competing” on a miniature football field, with the broader goal of highlighting adoptable animals and promoting shelter adoption.

In addition to the standard puppy matchup between Team Ruff and Team Fluff, the 2026 edition is expected to broaden the spotlight to include dogs with special needs as well as senior dogs in a separate showcase segment.

  • Foggy will appear as part of Team Ruff.
  • The broader event includes rescue dogs placed through shelters and animal welfare organizations.
  • Additional featured segments include special-needs and senior dogs.

Local tie-in: adoption outreach in San Francisco

Foggy’s selection has also been used to support local adoption outreach around the San Francisco SPCA’s programs. Shelter officials have promoted the broadcast as an opportunity to draw attention to animals currently awaiting homes, while emphasizing that Puppy Bowl participants are rescues that have already entered the shelter system and, in many cases, have been adopted by the time the program airs.

Puppy Bowl XXII airs Sunday, February 8, 2026, with Foggy representing the San Francisco SPCA as part of Team Ruff.
