Gridlock Alert: Super Bowl LX Festivities Peak in San Francisco

San Francisco is at the epicenter of Super Bowl LX fever this Saturday, February 7, 2026. With the Super Bowl Experience concluding its run at the Moscone Center and a major comedy event at Chase Center tonight, commuters and visitors should expect significant delays and numerous road closures across SoMa, Civic Center, and the Embarcadero. Officials recommend allowing at least 45 to 60 minutes of extra travel time if you must drive through the downtown core today.

Major Road Closures and Detours

The most substantial impacts are centered around the Moscone Center and Yerba Buena Gardens. Security zones and fan activities have transformed several blocks into pedestrian-only plazas. Drivers should actively avoid the following areas:

  • SoMa & Moscone Center: Howard Street is completely closed between 3rd and 4th Streets. Mission Street (between 3rd and 5th) and 4th Street (between Market and Folsom) are under daily closure orders from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. through the weekend.
  • Civic Center Fan Zone: Grove Street is closed between Larkin and Polk. Additional restrictions are in place on Polk Street between McAllister and Hayes, and along Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place for Saturday's public events and private gatherings.
  • The Embarcadero: Anticipate heavy congestion near the Ferry Building for the interactive projection shows. Spear and Drumm streets are facing partial closures and parking restrictions to accommodate pedestrian crowds.
  • Golden Gate Greenway: Golden Gate Avenue and Jones Street are closed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the Taste of the NFL showcase at the Hibernia.

Public Transit and Muni Alerts

Muni is the most reliable way to navigate the city today. To handle the massive influx of visitors, the SFMTA has deployed extra shuttle trains in the Muni Metro subway between West Portal and Embarcadero stations. Despite the increased frequency, riders should prepare for the following service changes:

  • Muni Bus Reroutes: The 5-Fulton, 5R-Fulton Rapid, 6-Haight/Parnassus, and 27-Bryant are currently rerouted around the Moscone and Civic Center closure zones. The 12-Folsom/Pacific is also diverted away from the SoMa security perimeter.
  • Regional Transit: BART and Caltrain are running on standard Saturday schedules, but riders should expect high ridership volumes on trains heading into the city.

Evening Congestion: Chase Center and Dogpatch

Traffic in Mission Bay will spike this evening as Dave Chappelle takes the stage at the Chase Center at 7:00 p.m. Additionally, the NFL Culture Club events in the Dogpatch have resulted in the closure of 19th Street between 3rd and Tennessee, and Illinois Street at Pier 80. Commuters are strongly advised to use the T-Third Street light rail to reach the venue and avoid the heavy gridlock near the 101 and 280 freeway exits.
