Two injured and eight displaced after Saturday night two-alarm house fire in San Francisco Bayview

Fire crews contain Exeter Street blaze within an hour as investigators work to determine cause
Two people were taken to hospitals and at least eight residents were displaced after a two-alarm house fire tore through a two-story home in San Francisco’s Bayview District on Saturday night, Jan. 24, 2026. Fire crews were dispatched at about 8:34 p.m., and the blaze was brought under control by 9:25 p.m., officials said.
The fire occurred on Exeter Street near Highway 101 and the site of the former Candlestick Park. Videos released during the response showed flames breaking through the roofline of the older structure and heavy smoke as firefighters worked from both the street and adjacent rooftops.
Injuries involved burns and a precautionary hospital transport
One resident suffered burn injuries to the hands after attempting to retrieve computer equipment from inside the home and was transported to a burn unit. Officials said the injury was not considered serious.
A second resident, a woman described as being in her late 90s, was also transported to a hospital as a precaution. Officials said she was unable to move on her own, and the hospital evaluation was tied to her age and mobility constraints rather than a confirmed serious injury at the scene.
Fire believed to have started in the ground-floor unit
The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Sunday. Fire personnel said early indications suggested the blaze began in the ground-floor unit of the single-family home, which had separate upstairs and downstairs living areas. The ground-floor occupant reported first noticing fire in a computer area and went upstairs to warn neighbors; upon returning, he found the situation had rapidly escalated.
Responding crews encountered fire conditions that intensified quickly. By the time the first units arrived, flames were pushing out from the rear of the home, and a back staircase was described as being engulfed.
Displacement, neighboring impacts, and emergency assistance
Emergency officials said eight people were displaced. The American Red Cross assisted displaced residents at the scene, providing support services for those forced to leave the home unexpectedly.
Authorities also reported slight damage to neighboring homes on both sides of the structure, indicating heat and fire spread effects beyond the primary residence. Fire personnel noted the interior contained a significant amount of items, adding to the available fuel load and contributing to the fire’s intensity.
