Sunday Traffic Overview

San Francisco commuters and sports fans should prepare for localized congestion in the Mission Bay district today, Sunday, February 22, 2026. While several major roadwork projects have concluded ahead of schedule, a midday Golden State Warriors game will create significant activity around the Chase Center. Additionally, late-night travelers heading toward the East Bay should be mindful of scheduled maintenance on the Bay Bridge starting late this evening.

Chase Center Event Alerts

The Golden State Warriors are set to host the Denver Nuggets today at 12:30 p.m. Doors at the Chase Center will open at 11:00 a.m., and heavy traffic is expected in the surrounding area starting mid-morning. To accommodate the crowds, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has implemented the following measures:

  • Street Closures: 16th Street and Warriors Way, between 3rd Street and Terry Francois Boulevard, will be closed to through traffic starting at 10:30 a.m. and will remain closed until approximately one hour after the game concludes.
  • Muni Service: The 78X Arena Express shuttle will provide service from the 16th Street BART Station to the arena beginning two and a half hours before tip-off.
  • Parking: Special event parking rates of $12 per hour are in effect at meters within the immediate vicinity of the arena to discourage circling and reduce neighborhood congestion.

Major Highway and Roadway Updates

There is positive news for those traveling through the South of Market area. Caltrans has reported that the 4th Street off-ramp from eastbound I-80, which was originally scheduled for a full weekend closure for bridge joint rehabilitation, has reopened early. Construction crews finished the deck replacement ahead of the Monday morning deadline, restoring full access for drivers entering the city from the West Bay.

In the Marina District, Marina Boulevard between Beach/Buchanan and Baker streets is scheduled to reopen by 8:00 a.m. today following the conclusion of the Red Bull Showrun event. Drivers can expect a return to normal traffic patterns along the northern waterfront for the remainder of the day.

Public Transit and Late-Night Advisories

BART is currently recovering from an earlier service disruption at the Civic Center station involving a medical emergency. While the station has reopened, residual delays may affect the SFO, Millbrae, and East Bay lines through the morning hours. Furthermore, travelers heading to the airport tonight should note that train control modernization work will cause delays of up to 30 minutes between Millbrae and SFO starting at 9:00 p.m.

For those planning a late-night exit from the city, Caltrans will begin maintenance on the Bay Bridge (I-80 Eastbound) at 11:00 p.m. tonight. Lanes 1 and 2 of the West Span will be closed for joint rehabilitation work until 7:00 a.m. Monday morning. Motorists are advised to stay in the remaining open lanes and exercise caution near work zones.
