Suspect arrested within hours; investigation remains active

San Francisco police say they have arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in the city’s South of Market neighborhood.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 1:31 a.m. to the 100 block of Sixth Street, where they found an adult victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Police and paramedics provided emergency aid and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim later died despite lifesaving efforts, police said.

Investigators from the department’s Homicide Detail took over the case and identified a suspect later that morning. Police said the suspect was located and taken into custody at about 9:26 a.m. on the 1200 block of Mission Street, roughly two miles from the initial reported shooting location. The department said the arrest followed the development of probable cause supporting arrest and search warrants.

Charges filed as prosecutors outline allegations

Prosecutors have filed a murder charge against the suspect, identified as Siaosi Aleamotuay, 33, a San Francisco resident. The charging documents also include an allegation that he personally used a firearm in the commission of the killing and a separate count alleging he was a felon in possession of a firearm.

In court filings described by authorities, prosecutors allege surveillance video captured key portions of the incident, including the suspect’s presence in the area and the moments immediately preceding the shooting. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim.

Police said the homicide investigation remains open and active despite the arrest.

What is known, and what remains unclear

  • The shooting was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m. on March 4 on the 100 block of Sixth Street.

  • The suspect was arrested later that morning on the 1200 block of Mission Street.

  • A murder charge has been filed, along with firearm-related allegations.

  • Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or a motive.

Community impact and requests for information

The 100 block of Sixth Street sits near transit corridors and late-night commercial activity, and the early-morning timing underscores the challenge of investigating violent incidents that unfold quickly and may rely heavily on video evidence and witness cooperation.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department’s tip line. Officials said information from witnesses and the public can still be relevant after an arrest, particularly as investigators work to confirm timelines, recover evidence, and identify additional witnesses.
